Obituary of Rodney L Smith Sr.
Rodney L. Smith Sr., passed away April 30, 2020 at Prince Georges County Hospital in Cheverly, MD after his long fought battle with cardiovascular disease. He was born February 28th 1954 in Washington, D.C, the son of Thomas and Pauline (Lee) Smith
In 1970 he volunteered for the D.C.Army National Guard where he served as a combat medic during the Vietnam War. After leaving the service, he continued in the medical field working at both Washington Hospital Center and George Washington University Hospital. Later in life he shifted his focus to Mass Communications, working as the general manager for WNTR talk radio before launching his own media & production company in 1994.
Rodney was a fierce advocate of community service and instilled that passion into his children. He did everything to the fullest, including supporting his children in their endeavors...he didn’t just drive his daughter to choir practice, he recorded and produced the choir’s cd!
He will surely be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle and friend.
Rodney is survived by his wife Wanda (Nelson); sons, Danan & Rodney Jr.; daughter Christina; his grandchildren; nephews and a host of colleagues and friends.
