Obituary of Charlotte Shannon
Charlotte Dronfield Shannon, age 83, died peacefully at Goodwin House, Bailey’s Crossroads, Falls Church after a long, valiant fight with cancer on February 24, 2020. Charlotte was born on May 5, 1936 in Erie, PA to Jack and Josephine Dronfield. She graduated from St. Vincent Nursing School in 1956 and began her work as a pediatric nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She moved to Washington D.C. in 1958 where she soon met and fell in love with Jerry, her husband of 59 years. Charlotte spent the next few decades raising her five children. When the nest was empty, she and Jerry enjoyed traveling, but soon the nest was full again and filled with laughter and the pitter-patter of the little feet of her thirteen grandchildren.
Charlotte is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Shannon; her brother Donald Dronfield and wife Patty; her son Bill Shannon and wife Monica; daughter Kathleen Hobbs and husband Bob; daughter Mary Jo Tully and husband Mike; daughter Clare Castronovo and husband Mike; and son Gregory Shannon and wife Megan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Madison, Benjamin and Ryan Shannon; Bobby, Jill and Nicole Hobbs; Patrick, Kevin, Maura and Ross Tully; Paul and Bridgette Castronovo; Arden Shannon; great-granddaughter Anabelle Hobbs as well as nieces and nephews.
