Obituary of LaDonna Rodock

LaDonna A. Rodock passed peacefully on October 21, 2019 surrounded by the warmth of her loved ones. A devoted mother to Mary Kulas (Fred), John N. Rodock, Stephen Rodock (Shannon) and Teresa Seay; loving grandmother to Frances and Kathleen Seay; Jay, Sarah & Sabrina Rodock; Kelly & Shaun Rodock and great-grandmother to Dominic Seay, LaDonna always held her arms, heart and home wide open to those she loved and found immense joy in caring for her family. Also included in her circle of caring loved ones is Toni Calderone. A longtime member, sacristan and cantor of Epiphany of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church of Annandale, VA, LaDonna’s strong religious sense carried through in her continued compassion and utmost generosity towards others, and her life in general. She became a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in 1996. Raised by her parents, Norman and Florence (Wartha) Andersen, along with her sisters, Helen Pagel and late Norma Andersen, LaDonna was born on December 27, 1921 and grew up in New Ulm, MN where her father was the Foreman for the New Ulm Brick and Tile Yard. She moved to Washington D.C. when she was 19 years old to work in the Military Intelligence Division of the U.S. War Department. She met her late husband, John Rodock, at a bowling alley in Rosslyn, VA and married in 1952. She retired from the War Department in 1953, eventually moving to Falls Church, VA where she remained a resident until her death. After raising their four children, LaDonna returned to work at the General Accounting Office until her retirement in 1985. She received a Meritorious Service Award from the Comptroller General to recognize her superior performance. LaDonna’s love and respect for nature was particularly noticeable by her fondness for flowers, gardening, birdwatching and caring for all creatures furry and feathered. She loved music and had a special fondness for Elvis Presley and Luciano Pavarotti. LaDonna was a great baseball fan, going to Washington Senators games in the early days and then cheering on the Washington Nationals from the comforts of her home. She loyally followed sports teams from colleges that her children and grandchildren attended and went to as many of their school functions and graduations as possible. She could often be found reading a good mystery or completing beautiful jigsaw puzzles. LaDonna was a woman of fierce strength, determination and independence – respected and loved by many people whose lives she touched throughout her blessedly long life. The wisdom, compassion, generosity, love and light that she gifted to so many will forever and always burn bright. Her viewing will be held Friday, October 25 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 3410 Woodburn Road, Annandale, VA, 22003. Divine Liturgy will be Saturday, October 26 10:00 a.m. at Epiphany with burial to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Epiphany of Our Lord Church or Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation, (www.lostdogrescue.org). Blessed repose, eternal memory.
