Joseph Bauernfeind

Obituary of Joseph William Bauernfeind

Joseph William “Joe” Bauernfeind (72) of Vienna, Virginia passed away Friday, November 15, 2019. Born in Marshfield, Wisconsin, he was the son of Joseph Bernard and Isabelle Bauernfeind. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Pamela Thompson Bauernfeind, his sons John and David, and his daughter Bethany. In addition, he is survived by his mother Isabelle (96) and siblings: Bonnie, Mary, Janis, Claire, and Tom, and sister-in-law Diane Thompson. Joseph lived a selfless life dedicated to those he surrounded himself with. He served his country in the US Army and US Army Reserves, including tours of duty in Vietnam and Bosnia. Over his years in the service he ascended to the rank of Command Sargent Major. He later supported our veterans through his career at the Department of Veterans Affairs as the director of Business Oversight. Joseph served as a lector for his church and was a common sight at scouting trips, PTO meetings, and manning the grills at his children’s swim meets. Joe and Pam split time between their homes in Virginia and Marathon, Florida, steering well clear of cold winter weather. Joe lived a life full of joy and if asked, he was always doing “just peachy”. A memorial service will be held at Saint Phillip’s Church in Falls Church, Virginia on Saturday, November 23 at 11 am. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Homes for Our Troops. https://www.hfotusa.org/
