Obituary of Oscar Miguel Obleas-Prado

Oscar, was born in Tapacari, Cochabamba, Bolivia. He received his baccalaureate degree from El Colegio Militar, La Paz, Bolivia. He studied Law at the Universidad Mayor de San Simon in Chochabamba, Bolivia. Upon graduation in 1959 he, along with his fellow graduates, was invited by the US Department of State, then under the Eisenhower Administration, to visit various law schools in the United States. One of those law schools was Georgetown University. Wishing to continue his studies, he applied to Georgetown where he was admitted and studied Economics. Oscar was married to María Olema Pena Villares, on April 28, 1966 in Madrid, Spain; they were married 38 years, until her death in 2004. Oscar worked as a development officer for The Inter-American Development Bank for a number of years and as loan officer in commercial banks in Washington DC, Miami, and South America. He enjoyed swimming, walking, reading, music and traveling. He was a member of the Rotary Club both in the US and South America. Oscar is survived by four of his five children, María “Nena”, David (Cynthia), Miguel “Mike” (Andrea), Raquel (Jeffrey), and his daughter-in-law Kimberly; his grandchildren: Pablo, Hallie, Alessandro, Dahlia, Lena, Liam, Hannah, Elsa, and Ava; his brothers: Remy (Mery), Silvestre (Teresa), and Gustavo (María Elena), and his sisters Ana and Elba (Ramón), sister-in-law Benedicta, nieces and nephews and family in the US, Bolivia, and Spain. Oscar was preceded in death by his wife María Olema (November 2004), son Javier (December 2004), and his brothers Armando and Luis and sister Marina; sisters-in-law Blanca and Julieta; and brothers-in-law, Manolo and Alberto. Funeral service will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1910 N. Randolph Street Arlington, VA at 2:00 P.M. on Friday February 14, 2020. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Advent funeral home. Interment will be family only at a later date following funeral services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America at pva.org.
